Delftware or Delft pottery, or Delft Blue. During the Dutch Golden Age, the Dutch East India Company imported millions of pieces of Chinese porcelain. The Chinese workmanship impressed many and only the richest could afford the imports. Dutch potters began to imitate Chinese porcelain when the supply to Europe was interrupted. Potters saw an opportunity to produce a cheap alternative. Much of the finer work was produced in the city of Delft.
